"The truth is like a lion. You don't have to defend it. Let it loose. It will defend itself."                                                       -St. Augustine

"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark: the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."                                                                              -Plato

“Dr. Dawn” is a lifelong resident of southeast Michigan and was a resident of Newport for 37 years before moving to Carleton. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and graduated valedictorian, summa cum laude from National College of Chiropractic, now National University of Health Sciences, near Chicago.

In 1982, she opened her own practice, married her husband, Bill, and moved to Newport, where they raised four sons who have now completed their college studies and have careers in real estate, business management, medicine, and accounting.

Dawn is recognized for her diagnostic abilities and analytical skills, which she brings with her to the political arena.  She knows that identifying symptoms is an important beginning to problem-solving, but that simply managing symptoms worsens long-term outcomes.  Lasting solutions can only be achieved after the cause of a problem is identified and addressed systematically.

Before seeking to serve on our Board of Commissioners four years ago, Dawn already had a reputation for keeping issues before public officials at all levels of government--regardless of Party affiliation. Her biggest concern as she decided to enter the political arena was the corruption and cronyism that had become embedded in the fiber of government, seemingly at every level.

Prominent in every election cycle is a spotlight on those who have served at the national level--people who have prospered at the expense of constituents. Instead of representing the people to the government, these officials have operated as if they received coronation--bringing BIG, EXPENSIVE, OVER-REACHING government to the lives and wallets of the taxpayer.

Of course, promises abound during the election cycle, but what we usually get is more spending and little to show for it during the legislative cycle.

Our local County Board of Commissioners is key--not only to responsibly conducting the business of the County, but in making sure our budget is not adversely impacted by bureaucrats at the State and National levels.

Dr. Dawn’s goals for District 3 are straightforward—to apply her innovative problem-solving skills, bring the concerns of the District to the Board of Commissioners, and keep constituents abreast of her efforts on their behalf.

As we are turning around the current top-down model, she is instituting monthly Town Halls to rotate back and forth between Ash and Berlin Townships, so that District 3 is well-informed and has a prominent voice in assuring County government acts on their behalf.

“Dr. Dawn” brings her energy and engagement to the office of County Commissioner, so that residents of District 3 have strong representation in County government.
